I heard this amazing song on MTV. This is a really old song, I have heard it couple times when I was little. And I heard it again few weeks ago. I was touched by the lyrics, and the meanings of the song. Really amazing. How can an art being really this inspiring? I don't know. Just check out the lyrics. I know some of you - even - have memorized it longgg time ago. But, I just want to make a review of it and a little bit explanations about punk music. Enjoy!
IMAGINE (John Lennon)
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no country
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
and no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possesions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one..
See, this is such another form of complains and critics about the world. I'm a punk-head. I love to critic and complaining everything. I love something smells like rebelion and riot or something like that. But John Lennon has made another side of punk. For me this is punk, but in a "softer" way. Or maybe, punk was inspired by this type of music. But the youth make it sounds harsh and coarse.
Okay, "IMAGINE". From the very beginning, John Lennon is trying to make us think. Think and makes us absorb something. He is trying to pursue us to think the same way as he was. Just like a punk song, this song is really persuasive.
The first verse, I think it likely more about our beliefs about the existence of the end of the day, wich belongs to the future. It's trying to makes us realize that, "why should we care about the future if we can manage the present time it self?". For me it's absolutely true. So John put "Imagine all the people, living for today." See, how explicit it is.
The second verse, John Lennon is trying to make us realize that difference is the most horrible thing in this world. He's trying to make us forget all of those differences, limits and anything like that wich is revering to countries and religions. And he's trying to show something and it sounds more like peace. I'm sure this verse actually talking about wars and world's peace.
And skip the chorus. The third verse, he's trying to showing us what is the main reason of crimes and poverties. We can see "possesion" in that verse. Yes, for me it's true. We're too greedy as human being. We make our own limit wich is called "possesion". He's trying to teach us that world will be a better place if we are all helping each other. Feed each other soul and mind. There will no no poverties, there will be no crimes. Because we are all living as one.
And the conlusion of the song is appearing in the chorus lines. The persuasive part of the song. It's trying to make us join together. Make the world better, living in peace, with no differences.
Over all, this is one of the most inspiring song I ever heard. Above all of the punk songs I ever know. I know we can't call it "punk". And actually it's not punk at all. But it has the same purpose and meaning like what punk trying to show us.
But punk or not, this song is not only art. This is a solid form of a human's dream about something better. It shows someone's mind and point of view about life itself.
If you can see deeper, you will get what I'm talking about.
All right I'm talking too much. So, see ya in the next post. LOL ;P
